The 2012 ETBT will stage out of the Petaluma KOA in Petaluma, California.
Camping
Camping at the Petaluma KOA is included in the Trek package. DON’T LIKE TO PITCH A TENT? There are alternate lodging options (RV Park and Kamping Kabins and Lodges) at the KOA for rent. For reservations/more information on these, call the Petaluma KOA at (707) 763-1492. Make sure to tell them you are with the Breathe California Emigrant Trails Bike Trek!! DO NOT MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS ONLINE! Trekkers and volunteers who choose alternate lodging (other than camping in a tent) are responsible for making their own reservations and paying associated fees.
Thursday Night Arrival/Camping
Thursday night arrival and camping is available for Trekkers and Camp Guests who wish to arrive and camp the night before the Trek start. Pre-registration is required as well as a nominal $20 fee to cover the cost of camping and breakfast on Friday morning.
If you plan to camp on Thursday night (September 6th), you will need to fill out the Thursday Night Camping Application and turn it in with your payment by Friday, August 24, 2012. We will post the Thursday Night Camping application as soon as it is available.
Camp Guests
You are allowed to bring guests with you who are not riding, but they must pre-register and pre-pay. Camp Guests must fill out the Camp Guest Application, and turn it in with payment by Friday, August 24, 2012. We will post the Camp Guest Application as soon as it is available.
RV's
If you are bringing an RV, you are responsible for making your own reservation and paying the associated fees. Call the Petaluma KOA at (707) 763-1492 to reserve your spot. Make sure to tell them you are with the Breathe California Emigrant Trails Bike Trek!! DO NOT MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS ONLINE!
Food
Trekkers are treated to seven delicious meals, cooked and served on-site by Red Oak BBQ. We will post the menu as soon as it is available.
Routes
Each day Trekkers will enjoy a different route departing from and returning to the Petaluma KOA. Riders will be able to choose among different routes each day, depending on their cycling ability. We will post the route maps as soon as they are available.
Daily Schedule
The daily schedule includes times for riding, in-camp activities, meal times and more. We will post the daily schedule as soon as it is available.

What You Should Bring on the Trek
We have created a packing list for the Trek. Even though we will probably have excellent weather, it is always a good idea to be prepared for variable weather. The ideas listed are only recommendations. You should modify them to fit your own preferences and needs and the weather forecast.
What you need for cycling:
- Bicycle—we recommend a road bike since ETBT routes are on paved roads.; if you have a mountain bike, we highly recommend slick tires
- Helmet (this is REQUIRED)
- One pair of riding gloves
- One pair of shoes—stiff-soled cycling shoes are best
- Three pairs of riding shorts—with a padded seat
- Three jerseys or t-shirts
- Windbreaker
- A long sleeved shirt for layering and sun protection
- Bike pump
- Water bottle for bike (two are recommended)
- Tire patch kit with tire irons/replacement tire tube
- Identification
- Camera

What you need for camping:
- Warm jacket for evenings
- Jeans
- Shorts
- Swimsuit
- Sweater
- Sweats, sweatshirt
- Walking shoes that can get dirty
- Towel (quick dry is best)
- Sleeping bag and stuff sack
- Tent
- Pillow
- Ground cloth
- Soft-sided bag for gear
- Toiletries
- Insect repellant
- Medications (ibuprofen, aspirin, allergy meds, etc.)
- Flashlight (highly recommended)
- Flip-flops
- Money for anything you might want to buy (massages, photos, Cantina, Trek Trading Post items)

What to Expect in Camp
Trek Central
Trek Central is the main information hub on the Trek. Come to Trek Central for all your Trek-related needs, including late check-in and/or early departure, fundraising incentive pick-up, Trek souvenirs, lost and found, basic first aid, additional donation drop off, daily schedules, menus, route maps, information about what to do in camp or in the area, and much more!
Extras In-Camp
- Free Snacks – On both Friday and Saturday afternoon there will be free snacks served in-camp to tide you over until dinner.
- Massages – Massages are very popular, so be sure to sign up early! Sign-ups will take place on Friday morning during Trek registration as well as on Friday and Saturday afternoon at the massage area. Massages are $25, which includes a 20 minute massage and a $5 tip for your massage therapist. Proceeds will be donated back to Breathe California!
- Cantina – Get a beer, wine, margarita, soda or water at the Cantina. The Afternoon Cantina will be open Friday and Saturday afternoon and the Evening Cantina will be open Friday and Saturday evening. All proceeds are donated back to Breathe California!
- Entertainment – Afternoon and evening entertainment will be provided on Friday and Saturday in-camp. We will post the details as soon as they are available.
